About Me

Hi there, and welcome to SnapBento.

I’m Maeve Connell—an Irish home cook born and raised in County Clare, now based in Asheville, North Carolina, where my kitchen is usually full of soup pots, flour-dusted counters, and the kind of recipes that make a day feel instantly warmer. SnapBento is where I share food that is comforting, practical, and full of character: cozy lunches, quick bakes, hearty bowls, rustic desserts, and Irish-inspired recipes with a homey twist.
This site was created for real life. For packed lunches that hold up well. For busy weekdays when you still want something homemade. For rainy Sundays, last-minute cravings, and the kind of meals that do not need to be fussy to be memorable. Around here, the food is a bit rustic, a lot delicious, and always meant to be made in a real kitchen by real people.
If you’re looking for approachable recipes with clear steps, helpful storage notes, lunchbox-friendly ideas, and a little warmth along the way, you’re in the right place.

My Story

I grew up in County Clare, Ireland, in a home that had far more heart than equipment. We did not have a kitchen full of gadgets or a pantry stocked with anything fancy. We had one oven, no microwave, and a garden that seemed determined to produce more rhubarb than any family could reasonably handle.
But what we had was better: good instincts, strong tea, and food that brought everyone to the table.
My mum could pull together a full roast dinner on a weeknight as if it were the easiest thing in the world. My dad firmly believed that nearly everything in life was improved by brown bread and butter. The meals I grew up with were simple, generous, and deeply comforting. They taught me something I still believe now: food does not need to be complicated to be special.
Of course, I did not appreciate that straight away.
When I was younger, I imagined a completely different path for myself. I wanted to be a travel photographer, not someone standing over a pot of stew. But in my early twenties, while backpacking through Eastern Europe, I discovered something that changed the way I saw food forever. I kept finding myself drawn not to the grand museums or famous landmarks, but to people’s kitchens. That was where the real stories were. That was where warmth lived. I came home with fewer photographs than I expected, but with more recipes, more memories, and more second helpings than I could count.
That experience stayed with me.
Later, when I moved to the United States, I started to notice how many people had never had a proper Irish soda bread, a real colcannon, or a sticky toffee pudding that tasted homemade instead of packaged. I found myself cooking for friends, explaining ingredients, sharing traditions, and putting my own spin on the recipes I loved most. What started informally became something much bigger: first meals shared at the table, then recipes shared online, and eventually a growing community of readers who wanted food that felt cozy, doable, and worth repeating.
That is the heart of SnapBento.

Why I Created SnapBento

I created SnapBento because I wanted a place for food that feels warm, useful, and genuinely lived-in.
There are plenty of recipe sites that look beautiful but do not always fit into everyday life. I wanted this one to be different. I wanted to build a recipe brand that balances comfort with practicality—one that respects tradition but is not trapped by it, one that welcomes imperfect home cooking, and one that helps readers make food they will actually want to cook again.
SnapBento is built around a simple idea: comfort food should work in real life. It should travel well when needed. It should keep well when possible. It should be clear, approachable, and flexible enough for busy days, family schedules, school lunches, office lunches, and those in-between moments when you need something dependable and satisfying.
This is where Irish warmth meets Asheville comfort. It is where rustic soups can be lunchbox-friendly, quick bakes can still feel special, and desserts can be a little cheeky without becoming complicated. I like to think of the site as having pub-music energy in a lunchbox—lively, comforting, a little improvised, and always welcoming.

My Approach to Food and Recipes

My cooking style is unapologetically rustic.
I am not chasing perfection here. I like cakes with slightly burnt edges, savory bakes with real texture, soups that taste even better the next day, and recipes that leave room for instinct. I believe there is a place for precision, of course, but I also believe some of the best cooking happens when you trust your senses a bit more and worry a bit less.
That said, I also know readers need recipes they can rely on.
So while my food may feel relaxed and homey, my approach to sharing recipes is practical and thoughtful. I write for home cooks who want clear steps, realistic ingredient lists, useful substitutions, and honest notes about what works best. I care about the details that matter in everyday cooking: how long something keeps, what to pack it in, whether it reheats well, how to avoid sogginess, and which shortcuts are worth taking.
At SnapBento, you will find food that is:
comforting without being overly complicated
practical enough for work and school lunches
rooted in real home cooking
flexible for busy schedules
full of flavor, texture, and warmth
I love recipes that feel generous. Meals that can carry you through the afternoon. Bakes that look charming even when they are a little uneven. Dishes that invite you to take one bite, then another, then quietly go back for more.
If it’s not perfect, it’s probably better.

What You’ll Find on This Website

SnapBento focuses on recipes that are designed to be both enjoyable and useful.
Here you’ll find:
Cozy, packable meals
Lunchbox-friendly recipes for workdays, school days, and busy afternoons—meals that hold up well, travel neatly, and still taste like something you genuinely looked forward to eating.
Soups, stews, and cozy bowls
Comfort food is a big part of who I am as a cook, so you will see plenty of warm bowls, brothy favorites, hearty soups, and make-ahead meals that are especially welcome on cold or rainy days.
Quick bakes and rustic sweets
I have a soft spot for quick bakes, comforting cakes, snackable treats, and desserts that vanish faster than they should. Some are rooted in Irish tradition, some are inspired by everyday cravings, and some are simply the happy result of curiosity and a full butter dish.
Irish classics, Maeve’s way
Traditional inspiration runs through this site, but I am not here to preserve recipes under glass. I love honoring familiar Irish flavors while making them approachable for modern kitchens and busy routines.
Helpful kitchen guidance
Alongside the recipes, I share the practical notes readers actually use: ingredient swaps, storage tips, meal-prep guidance, packing suggestions, and small details that help the recipe succeed outside a styled photo.
Whether you are here for a no-fuss work lunch, a cozy weekend bake, a classic with a twist, or something a bit unexpected—pear and cheddar scones, perhaps—you will find food designed to be made, packed, shared, and enjoyed.

My Commitment to Quality

Every recipe on SnapBento is created with real home cooks in mind.
That means I care just as much about usability as I do about flavor. A recipe should not only sound good—it should make sense on the page and work in the kitchen. When I share recipes, I aim to make them clear, readable, and genuinely helpful. I want you to know what to expect, how to prep ahead, how to store leftovers, and how to make the recipe fit your life.
My commitment is simple:
I share original content shaped by real experience, practical cooking habits, and years of learning from family food, travel, and everyday home kitchens. I focus on clear instructions, approachable ingredients, and the kind of depth that helps readers feel confident, not overwhelmed. You will often find notes on swaps, storage, reheating, meal prep, and packing because those details matter.
I also believe trust is built through transparency. That is why SnapBento includes easy access to important site information, including the Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Terms & Conditions, and Disclaimer. If you ever need to get in touch, you can reach me through the Contact page.
A recipe site should feel personal, but it should also feel dependable. That balance matters to me.

A More Personal Note

I still cook a lot like the girl who grew up in Clare—just with a different view from the window.
I still love food that feels seasonal, generous, and grounded. I still trust a worn spoon, a good loaf, and the smell of something baking to improve almost any day. I still think kitchens are one of the best places in the world to tell stories, make memories, and rescue a day that has gone slightly sideways.
My counters are not always tidy. My measurements are sometimes guided by instinct. There are moments when a recipe goes a bit off track and ends up becoming something even better because of it. I do not hide those moments, because that is what real cooking looks like.
I want SnapBento to feel like a friendly kitchen you are always welcome in. A place where the recipes are reliable, the tone is warm, and the food feels comforting without being precious. A place where you can learn something useful, make something lovely, and pack it up and get on with your day.
