Description
Crispy, homemade tortilla chips made with corn tortillas, oil, and salt. Perfect for dips or snacking. Choose to fry or bake for effortless, customizable results.
Ingredients
10 corn tortillas (white or yellow)
¾ to 1 cup neutral high-heat oil (avocado, safflower, peanut, or vegetable)
Sea salt to taste
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) if using the baked method.
Cut tortillas into diamond or triangle shapes (optional but recommended for even cooking).
For frying: Heat oil in a large skillet or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry tortilla pieces in batches until golden and crisp, 1–2 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
For baking: Arrange tortilla pieces in a single layer on a baking sheet. Drizzle lightly with oil and sprinkle with salt. Bake 10–15 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp.
Season immediately with additional salt while hot.
Notes
Use corn tortillas for best results; flour tortillas work but yield a softer texture.
Monitor oil temperature to prevent burning (medium heat is ideal). Adjust salt to taste.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
For extra flavor, add spices like chili powder or cumin before frying/baking.
