Description

A quick, no-cook side dish with thawed frozen peas, crispy fried onions, sharp cheddar, and a tangy cream dressing. Perfect for potlucks and BBQs, this salad is incredibly versatile and packs a sweet, salty, and tangy flavor profile. Chill it to let the flavors meld for even better taste.

Ingredients

Scale

4 cups frozen peas, thawed
3/4 cup cubed sharp cheddar cheese
1/3 cup diced red onion
1 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt and pepper
1/2 cup crispy fried onions (halal alternative to bacon)

Instructions

Thaw the frozen peas and drain excess water.
In a large bowl, combine thawed peas, sharp cheddar, diced red onion, and crispy fried onions.
In a separate small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, sugar, and salt and pepper.
Pour the dressing into the pea mixture and toss until well coated.
Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving for optimal flavor.

Notes

Crispy fried onions provide a halal alternative to bacon. Soak red onion in cold water to mellow its bite if preferred. Chill for enhanced flavor, and store leftovers in the fridge for up to 5 days in an airtight container.
